Tranzformd is seeking a highly capable Firewall SME (Subject Matter Expert) to work onsite with one of our prestigious university clients as part of their Chief Information Security Organisation (CISO) team. You will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining secure firewall infrastructure, with a focus on Palo Alto technologies and supporting a major network segmentation program.

This is a hands-on role requiring deep technical knowledge, strong collaboration skills, and a mindset for continuous improvement in a complex, enterprise-scale environment.

By joining Tranzformd, you will be working with ASX listed companies on transformation strategies, initiatives and programs of work. This might include but is not limited to the following:

• Design, configure, and maintain firewall policies in accordance with university cybersecurity and compliance requirements.
• Lead the delivery and enhancement of Palo Alto firewall infrastructure, including interface and zone configurations, routing, and segmentation.
• Monitor firewall activity and respond to anomalies, threats, or incidents, collaborating with the broader cybersecurity operations team.
• Support strategic initiatives such as network segmentation and secure architecture redesign.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders across IT and business to define firewall requirements and ensure alignment with project goals.
• Document security standards and procedures to support long-term firewall governance and lifecycle management.
• Participate in incident response activities and after-hours on-call support rotation.
• Provide subject matter expertise and thought leadership in contemporary cybersecurity trends and practices.

Key Selection Criteria

• Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with Palo Alto firewalls in a large, complex environment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of routing, zones, NAT, virtual routers, and firewall rule analysis.
• Experience delivering network segmentation strategies and analysing "any-any" rules to define secure access policies.
• Ability to work within change management frameworks and enterprise environments, ideally in the education, government, or health sectors.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and ability to translate technical concepts into business language.
• Familiarity with ITIL, Agile or Lean delivery approaches.
• Experience in enterprise security operations, including incident response and forensic analysis.

Desirable Qualifications

• Tertiary or postgraduate qualifications in cybersecurity, networking, or a related field.
• Palo Alto certifications (e.g. PCNSA, PCNSE).
• Experience in university, health, transport, or government sector environments.
