Senior Software Engineer

We're currently hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join a high-performing team at a leading investment and financial services firm in Sydney CBD. We're about to rebuild our entire trading platform into a cloud-native, microservices architecture, replacing legacy integration points with Kafka streaming, modernising performance, and rethinking how we handle scale. It's the kind of transformation engineers rarely get to own in their career - and we're looking for people who want to help design it.

Office Location: Sydney CBD
Working Arrangement: Hybrid (flexible)
Salary Range: $180K-$230K + super + competitive bonus.

Role Overview:

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing and developing a high-performance in-house trading platform connecting to global equity markets. This is a hands-on, collaborative position where you'll work closely with traders, stakeholders, and a small, focused engineering team to deliver scalable systems that drive trading and investment strategy.

Tech Environment:

Java, Linux, Kafka, SQL, Cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP), Docker/Kubernetes

Key Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain core components of a real-time trading platform
• Solve complex challenges across infrastructure, data, and application layers
• Enhance system design, CI/CD pipelines, automation, and engineering practices

What We're Looking For:

• 5-10 years' Java experience, with deep knowledge of concurrency and performance
• Background in low-latency or high-throughput systems, ideally within trading, financial markets, or capital markets.
• Strong with messaging systems (Kafka, JMS), SQL, and cloud/container tool.
