Senior Test Engineer

  • Brisbane Based (Hybrid Flex)
  • $800 - $1000 / day inclusive of Super (Negotiable)
  • 6 Month Initial Contract (possible extension)

As a Senior Test Engineer, you will play a critical role across the entire Software Development Life Cycle, ensuring quality is deeply embedded from planning through to delivery. You will guide teams in adopting comprehensive testing practices, develop automated frameworks, and take accountability for the end‑to‑end testing cycle of major initiatives.

You will:

  • Lead the development and delivery of modern automated testing frameworks.
  • Provide specialist technical advice, tackle complex issues, and influence engineering decisions.
  • Act as a mentor and trusted advisor to other Software Test Engineers.
  • Work seamlessly with cross‑functional feature teams to achieve high‑quality outcomes.
  • Contribute to and enhance overall software engineering operations across the organisation.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a Software Test Engineer - Automation role.
  • Guidewire/ClaimCenter experience (highly desirable).
  • Experience with programming/scripting languages such as Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Groovy or Python.
  • Hands‑on experience with tools including Playwright, Puppeteer, Selenium, REST Assured, Postman, SoapUI and Jenkins.
  • Proven delivery track record and experience supporting high‑availability systems.
  • Strong background in Agile and Lean methodologies.

Technical Competencies

  • Deep understanding of SDLC and Agile testing practices.
  • Ability to design contextualised testing approaches and understand system architecture.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience estimating test effort, environment setup, deployment and release support.
  • Ability to identify and manage technical debt.
  • Expertise in web testing automation frameworks (Playwright, Cucumber, Selenium WebDriver, WebdriverIO, etc.).
  • Expertise in API automation frameworks (Pact, REST-Assured, Postman, SoapUI, etc.).
  • Experience managing test infrastructure using Cloud and DevOps tools (AWS, Jenkins, Ansible, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Git, Bitbucket and modern version control practices.
  • Understanding of containerisation and serverless approaches (e.g., OpenShift).
  • Interest in knowledge sharing and participation in the engineering community.

  • Establish and maintain a shared definition of "quality" across your team.
  • Lead testing strategies, standards and process improvements.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations with clarity and professionalism.
  • Plan and execute all required testing levels and types-functional, system, integration, regression, performance, security, accessibility, compatibility, maintainability and more.
  • Contribute to the analysis of requirements, solution design and acceptance criteria.
  • Challenge development teams to maintain strong test coverage and high standards.
  • Create, maintain and reuse test artefacts including test cases, scripts and documentation.
  • Deliver both automated and manual testing aligned to project milestones.
  • Ensure test data creation is automated and efficient.
  • Raise, track and manage defects in line with Agile ways of working.
  • Identify opportunities to automate infrastructure setup, test execution, releases, deployments and reporting.
  • Design and implement frameworks that embed quality, automation and security into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Support unit, integration and system testing activities.
  • Identify technical and process improvement opportunities.
  • Contribute to release preparation and production support where required.
