Role: Principal Platform Engineer
Daily Rate:$1100 - $1200 + Super
Contract Length: Initial contract until 12/03/27
Location: Parramatta/WFH Hybrid

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Platform Engineer to set the strategic direction, design and optimisation of enterprise platform infrastructure. This role leads platform engineering initiatives that ensure systems are scalable, secure, resilient and automation-driven, while enabling faster, safer delivery of digital services across government.

You will provide deep technical leadership across platform, DevOps and engineering teams, champion modern CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code and test automation practices, and ensure platform capability aligns with long-term business and organisational objectives.

What You'll Do

• Define and lead the long-term platform architecture strategy, improving stability, scalability and resilience

• Design and implement CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation across environments

• Establish and embed test automation frameworks and shift-left quality practices

• Provide technical leadership and mentoring, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and engineering excellence

• Collaborate with development, DevOps, QA, security and infrastructure teams to deliver platform outcomes

• Lead major incidents, root cause analysis and reliability improvements

• Establish governance, standards and documentation to meet compliance and security requirements

• Evaluate emerging technologies and provide strategic recommendations to leadership

About You

• Extensive experience in platform engineering, DevOps and infrastructure leadership

• Strong expertise in CI/CD, IaC (e.g. Terraform), automation and testing frameworks

• Experience across cloud and on-prem environments

• Proven ability to lead teams, mentor engineers and drive best practice adoption

• Strong stakeholder engagement, governance and communication skills

• Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent professional experience

• Ability to obtain and maintain Baseline / PROTECTED level security clearance

• Satisfactory criminal record check

• Ongoing participation in mandatory probity and employment screening
