Role:
We are currently partnering with a professional services firm working closely with public sector engagements. There is a opportunity for an Enterprise Architect to work closely with the CIO of this government agency to design and roll out a shared services model across other agencies. As the Enterprise Architect you lead the technical design and governance approach, to define what application capabilities should be separated into shared services vs remain in house, and shape the operating model, target technology architecture and federated governance required for success.
Key responsibilities
- Lead assessment of current application landscape and identify shared services vs retained capabilities
- Design the target enterprise architecture for shared services including application, data, integration, security and infrastructure patterns.
- Define the operating model and federated governance framework to manage shared services across multiple agencies
- Collaborate directly with the CIO, delivery team, agency stakeholders and technical SMEs to validate decisions and gain alignment.
- Produce architecture artifacts: capability maps, target state diagrams, migration roadmaps, governance charters, standards and decision matrices.
- Evaluate impacts to service ownership, SLAs, cost allocation, compliance and risk; recommend mitigation strategies.
- Support workshops, stakeholder engagement, and executive briefings to secure approvals and drive adoption.
- Provide advice on tooling, automation and organizational changes needed to operate shared services at scale.
You will have:
- Proven Enterprise Architect with 8+ years' experience designing cross-agency/shared services or multi-tenant architectures.
- Strong experience with operating model design and federated governance in public sector or large complex organizations.
- Hands-on knowledge of application portfolio rationalization, integration patterns (APIs, ESB, event-driven), data sharing and security/privacy implications.
- Experience developing migration roadmaps, capability maps, and high-quality architecture artifacts for executive audiences.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills; experience working directly with CIOs and senior leaders.
- Clear understanding of cloud and hybrid infrastructure patterns, identity/access management, and compliance in government contexts.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
Desirable
- Prior experience with NSW government agencies or Australian public sector.
- Familiarity with cost allocation and commercial models for shared services.
