On 2 September, the Federal Government announced a new Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL) to fill urgent skills needs in critical sectors. Whilst this may not appear very significant, it could be a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for forward-thinking employers to secure some of the world’s best Technology & Digital talent.

Having a skilled occupations list is nothing new, however, due to the prevalence of COVID-19 globally, Australia is in an incredibly appealing position compared to many other countries and this is likely to attract skilled people who may not have considered migrating previously, including those from top international Tech hubs (think Silicon Valley).

The list identifies 17 occupations that can be fast-tracked into Australia, including several key Tech sector roles.

We have always had a skills shortage, and whilst priority needs to go to getting Australians back to work, it remains inevitable that our talent pool will need to be supplemented in specialist areas. The new skills priority list makes it possible for businesses to gain a significant competitive advantage by securing exceptional Technology talent from previously unreachable international markets.

So, if hiring the world’s best talent appeals to you, we would love to help you make it a reality! Get in touch today to discuss how we can begin your search.
