Description
Title: Chapter Lead - Architecture
Location: Sydney (Hybrid)
Salary: Competitive + bonus
The role
I'm working with a global insurance business going through a significant uplift across their technology function.
This is a senior leadership role sitting over a sizeable architecture capability (circa 40 people, mix of perm + contractors). It's not just people leadership - this is about setting direction, lifting standards, and bringing structure to how architecture is done.
You'll own the architecture chapter - strategy, capability, governance, and ultimately how effective this function is across the business.
What you'll be doing
- Leading and developing a team of ~40 architects (enterprise, domain, solution)
- Setting the architecture strategy and ensuring it aligns to business priorities
- Uplifting capability across the team - coaching, standards, ways of working
- Driving governance - defining what "good" looks like and holding teams to it
- Partnering with senior stakeholders across technology and the business
- Bringing consistency across what is likely a fairly federated environment
What we're looking for
- Proven experience leading large architecture teams (or similar scale)
- Strong grasp of architecture across enterprise / solution layers
- Someone who understands what good architecture looks like - not just on paper
- Experience driving governance and improving standards
- Ability to operate at leadership level but still credible with architects
- Comfortable working in complex, enterprise environments
Why this role
- High impact - genuine opportunity to shape a large architecture function
- Strong backing from leadership to uplift capability
- Global business with significant investment in technology
