About the role
W're looking for an experienced Lead DevOps Engineer to shape and lead DevOps capability across the enterprise.
This is a senior technical leadership role where you will drive modern DevOps and Continuous Delivery practices, influence platform and application maturity, and enable secure, reliable and scalable software delivery in a highly regulated environment. You'll work closely with Architecture, Engineering, Security and Delivery leaders, acting as a trusted advisor and hands‑on leader.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation and continuous improvement of DevOps practices, tooling and standards across the organisation
- Collaborate with Architecture and Technical Leadership teams to identify, evaluate and implement emerging tools, platforms and practices that improve application maturity and engineering efficiency
- Identify and implement methodologies and tools that align delivery practices with industry‑leading Continuous Delivery standards
- Set and govern DevOps tooling and CI/CD standards, including security and compliance guidelines, ensuring consistent adoption and adherence
- Own and evolve CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Enterprise Cloud and Azure DevOps to enable secure, automated software delivery
- Lead, coach and mentor DevOps engineers, fostering a high‑performance, collaborative and continuous improvement culture
- Provide technical ownership across all stages of delivery, offering expert guidance to project and delivery stakeholders
- Drive infrastructure‑as‑code, automation and cloud‑first practices across Azure, PaaS, containerised and shared compute environments, with support for on‑prem platforms where required
- Embed DevSecOps principles, including security automation, governance and compliance, into DevOps workflows
- Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous service improvement activities
About you
You're a confident technical leader with strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset. You're comfortable operating in complex, regulated environments, able to balance strategic leadership with hands‑on delivery, and passionate about improving how teams build and run software.
You'll bring many of the following:
Essential experience and skills
- Proven experience in a senior or lead DevOps role within a large or regulated organisation
- Extensive experience designing, deploying and operating solutions on Microsoft Azure, with exposure to AWS beneficial
- Strong hands‑on experience with GitHub Enterprise Cloud, including repositories, pull requests, security controls and CI/CD workflows
- Demonstrated experience with Azure DevOps, including pipelines, repositories and work item management
- Experience building, deploying and supporting applications in CI/CD environments using tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins or TeamCity
- Strong knowledge of infrastructure‑as‑code, automation and modern DevOps practices
- Experience implementing security automation and DevSecOps practices
- Demonstrated ability to lead, guide and mentor DevOps engineers
Desirable
- Azure Solutions Architect or related cloud certification
- Experience with monitoring, analytics and telemetry tools (e.g. Dynatrace, Splunk, TICK stack)
- DevSecOps, ITIL Foundation, or other security or service management certifications
