Description

Our leading Federal Government client are hiring for a highly capable Lead Business Intelligence Specialist to join the organisation. This is an EL1 equivalent contract role for a senior BI professional with proven experience delivering end-to-end solutions in complex government environments. You will own the design, governance and delivery of reporting capability using Tableau, Power BI and Jira, while partnering closely with senior business stakeholders.

Candidates must be based in Sydney or Canberra and able to work a minimum of 2 days a week in office. This role requires candidates to possess a Negative Level One (NV1) Clearance in order to start.


Estimated Start Day: June, 2026 - 12 Month Initial Contract, with a further 12 month extension option.

Role Title: Lead Business Intelligence Specialist

Daily Rate: $950 - $1,100 Inclusive of Super per day.

Location: Sydney CBD (2000) or Canberra (2600) - 2 days in office as minimum.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Interpret business requirements for core reporting capability to support use of Tableau, Power BI and JIRA, with a focus on addressing key reporting needs and project configuration;
  • Work with business-as-usual teams to develop a governance model for key BI products that align with the operating model and key forums such as the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) and Information and Data Management sub-committees;
  • Undertake data migration activities to support more meaningful and reliable analytics;
  • Provide architect solutions to support enhanced management reporting;
  • Identify and extract relevant data to support various reporting tools aligned to technology directions;
  • Create, test and deliver solution updates, dashboards and/or reports covering the identified business requirements;
  • Transition and document the capability delivered for effective handover to stakeholders;
  • Present insights and recommendations for future development and sustainability of management reporting for data systems; and
  • Identify and recommend ways to leverage platforms to maximise investment and maintain their currency, and work with relevant teams to implement changes and upgrades.

Knowledge and Technical Skills Required:

  • Advanced hands-on experience implementing, governing and developing BI solutions.
  • Experience partnering with senior leaders to translate business problems into technical outcomes.
  • Strong experience designing and implementing solutions in PROTECTED environments.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills at a senior technical level.

Candidates are required to be based in Sydney or Canberra and additionally, must possess Australian Citizenship and be in possession of an NV1 Clearance or have the ability to obtain this clearance.
