We're partnering with a well-established Australian business investing heavily in data, AI, and digital innovation.
This is a key leadership role within a newly formed AI & Data function, with a strong focus on building out a modern data platform on AWS + Databricks.
You'll play a central role in shaping how data is leveraged across the business - from foundational platform build through to enabling advanced analytics and AI use cases.
What you'll be doing:
- Leading the design and build of a Databricks-based data platform on AWS
- Driving data innovation across AI/ML, advanced analytics, and digital initiatives
- Architecting scalable data pipelines (ETL/ELT) using modern, cloud-native patterns
- Partnering with senior stakeholders to identify and deliver data-driven opportunities
- Establishing best practices across data engineering, governance, and platform design
- Mentoring and guiding engineers within a growing data team
What we're looking for:
- Strong experience in data engineering / data platform architecture
- Hands-on experience with Databricks (this is critical)
- Strong AWS experience (Glue, Redshift, Athena, Lambda etc.)
- Solid Python and SQL skills
- Experience building modern data platforms (lakehouse / medallion architecture)
- Exposure to AI/ML or working alongside data science teams
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills
Nice to have:
- Experience in greenfield or transformation environments
- Exposure to streaming / real-time data pipelines
- Experience operating in large, complex organisations
Why this role:
- Opportunity to shape a Databricks-first data platform from the ground up
- Strong investment in cloud, data, and AI
- High visibility role with access to senior leadership
- Long-term impact across a well-known Australian business
