I'm currently partnering with a high-growth Australian technology business that is building advanced hardware and software solutions used in complex, mission-critical environments globally.
This is a genuinely exciting opportunity for a Senior Linux Engineer to work on next-generation Linux platforms powering highly specialised devices deployed at scale across demanding environments.
The business is experiencing significant global growth, investing heavily in engineering and product development, and scaling both locally and internationally. You'll be joining a deeply technical engineering environment where Linux sits at the core of the platform strategy.
The Role
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing, building and hardening Linux-based operating environments across multiple hardware platforms.
You'll be involved across the full device lifecycle - from hardware bring-up and OS customisation through to production images, update mechanisms and long-term platform reliability.
The role will suit someone who enjoys low-level Linux engineering, system architecture, automation and security-focused environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and customise Linux distributions for embedded and appliance-style environments
- Support hardware bring-up and production deployment workflows
- Build and maintain secure, hardened Linux operating environments
- Develop reproducible build pipelines and automated deployment tooling
- Implement observability, diagnostics and telemetry capabilities
- Design reliable update mechanisms for both connected and offline deployments
- Troubleshoot deep OS, kernel and system-level issues
- Work closely with engineering, security and platform teams across the business
What We're Looking For
- Strong experience building and supporting production Linux systems
- Deep understanding of Linux internals including boot processes, storage, init systems and networking
- Experience with OS hardening and security best practices
- Strong scripting skills (Bash plus Python, Go or similar)
- Experience with containers and modern Linux tooling
- Exposure to provisioning, automation and image-based deployment models
- Product-focused engineering mindset with strong attention to reliability and scalability
Nice to Have
- Experience working with hardware or embedded environments
- Knowledge of secure boot, TPMs, immutable systems or atomic updates
- Exposure to OCI/container technologies and modern deployment models
