Description
We're hiring a Data Governance Specialist for a well-known Australian bank that's serious about doing data and AI properly - not as a tick-box exercise, but as a genuine driver of better decisions and safer outcomes for customers.
You'll sit inside a tight-knit governance team that's moving the organisation from "fixing data problems after they happen" to "building the guardrails before they do." Think policies that actually get used, forums that lead to real decisions, and an AI governance framework that's still being shaped - with room for you to help shape it.
Responsabilities
- You won't just maintain a framework - you'll help build one, as AI governance is still taking form
- Real variety: one day you're in a governance committee, the next you're elbow-deep in Power BI, the next you're coaching a Data Steward through their obligations
- A team that takes the work seriously but doesn't take itself too seriously - curiosity and a sense of humour are part of the job description
- Genuine autonomy to own your patch of work end-to-end
- Keeping data governance policy and practice aligned, running point on governance forums and reporting, helping the business get its arms around critical data elements, and translating regulatory obligations (APRA, ASIC, OAIC, AML/CTF, GDPR) into things people can actually follow.
- You'll also be a go-to voice as AI governance frameworks get designed and embedded - helping the organisation use AI safely, ethically, and with confidence.
What you'll bring
- 3-5 years in a data governance, data management, or information management role
- Comfortable in Excel/SQL and Power BI (or similar)
- A working knowledge of the data management lifecycle and governance tooling
- Some exposure to Australian financial services regulation as it relates to data, AI, or privacy
- Familiarity with frameworks like DAMA-DMBOK or ISO - DAMA-CDMP is a bonus, not a must
- A tertiary qualification in business, finance, IT, or information management (or equivalent experience)
What's in for you
- Shape something new, not just maintain it - the AI governance framework is still being built, so you'll have real input into how it takes shape rather than inheriting a finished playbook.
- Genuine variety and autonomy - one day it's a governance committee, the next it's Power BI or coaching a Data Steward, with room to own your work end-to-end, in a hybrid, flexible working environment with 2 days WFH
- Stability with meaningful impact - a permanent role at a real bank, where your work directly improves how data and AI are used to make decisions and protect customers, inside a team that values curiosity
- Competitve salary with opportunties to grow
