Description
Senior Power BI Developer
Flexible engagement: day rate contract or fixed-term appointment, with scope to extend or convert to permanent.
About the opportunity
We are partnering with a well-known Australian retail organisation that is investing heavily in data, analytics and modern reporting. They are looking for a Senior Power BI Developer to take ownership of a high-profile enterprise reporting program and help shape the future of their Power BI environment.
This is a hands-on delivery role suited to someone who can build excellent Power BI solutions, make sound platform decisions, and work directly with senior business stakeholders. The immediate focus is migrating critical enterprise reporting from legacy BI tools into Power BI, while improving governance, performance and self-service analytics capability.
Location: Sydney
Engagement: Open to day rate contract or fixed-term appointment
Duration: Initial 12-month engagement, with option to extend or convert to permanent
About the organisation
The organisation is a large, values-led Australian retailer with a significant physical footprint and a strong reputation for quality, customer experience and sustainability. The business is part-way through a major data transformation program, including modernisation of its analytics platform, migration to Microsoft Fabric and broader adoption of Power BI across the enterprise.
What you'll be doing
Lead enterprise reporting delivery
Own and improve the Power BI platform
Collaborate across data and analytics
Enable self-service analytics
What this role is not
Not a pure change management role. You will support adoption, but your value is in delivering high-quality BI solutions.
Not a data engineering role. You will partner closely with data engineers, but your focus is Power BI, modelling and reporting.
Not a people leadership role. You may mentor others, but this is primarily a senior individual contributor position.
Not an enterprise architecture role. You will influence BI architecture, but broader data strategy and platform ownership sit with the wider data leadership team.
What you'll bring
Essential experience
Stakeholder
Preferred (Not required)
THE PERSON WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You are a hands-on Power BI specialist who has delivered enterprise reporting solutions in complex environments. You care about clean models, reliable data, strong governance and reports that people actually use.
You are comfortable working with senior stakeholders, asking the right questions, and turning ambiguous business requirements into practical technical outcomes.
You are confident enough to own technical decisions, pragmatic enough to work within business constraints, and collaborative enough to bring users and data teams with you.
You may have worked in retail, FMCG, supply chain or another fast-moving, data-rich environment, but sector background is less important than your ability to deliver.
You are curious about emerging AI capabilities, but realistic about what can be tested, adopted and scaled in an enterprise setting.
You communicate clearly in writing and in person, and you can explain technical trade-offs to non-technical audiences.
