The Opportunity
An established and growing Australian healthcare organisation is seeking a General Manager - Information Technology to lead its technology function through its next stage of maturity and growth.
Reporting directly to the CEO and sitting on the Executive Leadership Team, this role has enterprise-wide responsibility for technology strategy, infrastructure, applications, Enterprise Architecture, service management, cyber governance, data and vendor partnerships.
The immediate mandate is to strengthen the technology foundations, improve visibility and governance, and establish a clear strategy and roadmap for the future. Longer term, the role will help shape how AI, automation and emerging technology support growth and the future delivery of healthcare.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the enterprise IT and data strategy.
- Own the technology roadmap and Enterprise Architecture.
- Establish architecture standards, principles and governance.
- Align technology investment with business strategy and growth.
- Provide strategic technology advice to the CEO and ELT.
- Lead approximately 15 technology professionals across IT Operations/Infrastructure and Development/Applications.
- Improve the reliability, resilience and performance of core technology services.
- Oversee infrastructure, cloud, networks, applications and integrations.
- Ensure technology can support a growing, multi-site healthcare environment.
- Drive continuous improvement across technology operations and delivery.
- Establish clear KPIs, SLAs and service performance measures.
- Provide transparent reporting to the CEO and ELT across performance, risk, investment and delivery.
- Mature IT processes, policies and service management.
- Strengthen disaster recovery and business continuity capability.
- Provide leadership and governance across cyber security and technology risk.
- Ensure appropriate protection of sensitive patient, clinical and corporate information.
- Work with external security partners to continually assess and improve cyber posture.
- Ensure technology risks are clearly understood and communicated at Executive level.
- Own technology sourcing strategy and key build, buy and partner decisions.
- Manage strategic relationships with vendors and MSPs.
- Establish clear vendor performance measures and governance.
- Ensure technology partnerships deliver strong service and value for money.
- Shape the organisation's approach to AI and automation.
- Identify opportunities to improve clinical and operational workflows.
- Establish appropriate AI governance and architecture.
- Ensure initiatives deliver measurable business value.
- Position technology to support the organisation's future growth and evolving models of healthcare.
About You
We are seeking an experienced technology leader who combines strong technical foundations with exceptional Executive communication and business partnering capability.
You'll ideally bring:
- Senior leadership experience across enterprise technology.
- Strong IT Operations and Infrastructure foundations.
- Broad exposure across Applications, Architecture, Cloud, Cyber and Data.
- Experience developing technology strategies and roadmaps.
- Enterprise Architecture and technology governance experience.
- Strong vendor, MSP and commercial management capability.
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary technology teams.
- Experience within a complex, regulated and/or multi-site organisation.
- Strong cyber security, resilience and technology-risk knowledge.
- Exposure to AI and automation.
- Excellent Executive stakeholder management and influencing skills.
Healthcare experience is highly regarded, although candidates from other complex, regulated or distributed organisations are encouraged to apply.
Specific technology-stack experience is less important than leadership maturity, strategic capability and experience building well-run technology functions.
Leadership Profile
Technical capability alone won't define success.
We're looking for a transparent, collaborative and commercially minded leader who can build credibility with the CEO and ELT, translate technology into business outcomes and proactively communicate performance, risks and priorities.
You'll empower your leadership team to own day-to-day operations while maintaining focus on strategy, governance and organisational outcomes.
What Success Looks Like
Success will include establishing a clear technology strategy and roadmap, ownership of Enterprise Architecture, improved reliability and resilience, stronger cyber and vendor governance, meaningful KPIs and SLAs, and greater Executive visibility of technology performance.
With the foundations established, you'll help position the organisation to take advantage of AI, automation and emerging technology while supporting continued national growth.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is a highly visible opportunity to shape technology within a growing Australian healthcare organisation.
You'll report directly to the CEO, sit on the ELT and have genuine enterprise-wide ownership of technology, with the opportunity to strengthen the foundations today while helping define how technology enables the organisation's future growth and innovation.
