Cyber Security Junior Analyst - Detect & Respond | Brisbane CBD | On-site | 2 Year FTC | Contract Engagement
About The Role
We're seeking a Junior Cyber Security Analyst to support a Detect & Respond function, focused on improving cyber security maturity through effective monitoring, triage and response.
You'll be responsible for monitoring and analysing events/alerts via the SIEM and service management tooling, maintaining strong queue hygiene, supporting initial investigation/containment activities, and contributing to SOPs and incident response playbooks. You'll also support tabletop exercises, capture lessons learned and assist with post-incident review notes.
Skills (Requirements)
- Basic IT and cyber security literacy (endpoint, identity/access, email and user context)
- Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
- Clear communication skills and confidence escalating when required
- Comfortable working in a queue-based environment (triage, updates, closure discipline)
- Curiosity and resilience, willingness to learn tooling and processes quickly
- Relevant qualification in cyber security / IT / information management (or similar)
Desirables
- Exposure to SIEM monitoring and alert triage
- Experience using a service management platform (e.g., ServiceNow)
- Exposure to incident response concepts (containment, playbooks, PIRs)
- Interest in threat research / staying across trending threats and risks
Role Responsibilities
- Monitor incident and alert queues across cyber toolsets
- Triage and classify alerts, escalating in line with documented procedures
- Perform initial checks (sign-in anomalies, device health, email header checks, user/context lookups)
- Recommend containment actions where appropriate and support response activities
- Maintain ticket quality and queue hygiene (correct categorisation, assignment, closure)
- Create/track remediation tasks for vulnerabilities identified by the team
- Contribute to and improve SOPs and incident response playbooks
- Participate in tabletop exercises, capturing lessons learned and supporting PIR notes
- Support continuous improvement and proactive risk identification/escalation
