Role: Java Developer
Daily Rate: $900 - $1000 incl. Super
Contract Length: Initial contract to 30/06/27 + 12-month extension
Location: Canberra/WFH Flex

NV1 Clearance Required. Strong Java / Java EE enterprise development experience essential.

An established Federal Government agency is seeking an experienced Java Developer to join a high-profile technology environment supporting critical, enterprise-scale applications.

This is a hands-on development role suited to someone with strong experience across Java / Java EE, enterprise application development, system enhancements, upgrades and production support.

Key Responsibilities

• Designing, developing and maintaining robust, scalable enterprise applications using Java and Java EE
• Enhancing and improving existing software platforms in line with business and technical requirements
• Undertaking software upgrades, application enhancements and remediation
• Investigating and resolving complex application and production issues
• Testing and validating application changes to ensure reliable outcomes
• Reviewing and improving existing code to increase efficiency, performance and maintainability
• Producing high-quality technical and solution documentation
• Working collaboratively with developers, technical teams and business stakeholders
• Supporting and mentoring less experienced developers
• Contributing to project reporting, technical governance and delivery planning
• Operating effectively within structured security, legislative and governance frameworks

About You

• Strong commercial experience developing enterprise applications using Java / Java EE
• Experience maintaining and enhancing complex, business-critical applications
• Strong experience with software version upgrades and application modernisation
• Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving capability
• Experience delivering development outcomes within agreed timelines and priorities
• Strong technical documentation skills
• Excellent stakeholder communication skills
• Experience mentoring or supporting junior developers
• Previous experience within Federal Government, Defence, financial services or another highly regulated environment will be highly regarded
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology or a related discipline
