Description
A leading member-based organisation is investing heavily in its technology modernisation, cloud governance and operational resilience capability. They are looking for an experienced Cloud Architect to define the standards, guardrails and target-state architecture that underpin their Azure environment.
This is a genuinely broad architecture role: you will influence cloud strategy and platform direction, while working closely with cyber security, infrastructure, platform operations, delivery teams and senior business stakeholders to make sure cloud solutions are secure, resilient and practical to operate.
You'll join the Architecture Centre of Excellence and take ownership of cloud architecture across Azure, including platform design, landing zones, security, identity, networking, governance and operational patterns.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Define and maintain Azure architecture standards, reference architectures, reusable patterns and cloud guardrails across IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and cloud-native services.
- Shape cloud roadmaps across platform, infrastructure, network, identity, security, integration, data and applications.
- Guide delivery teams on Azure landing zones, connectivity, segmentation, private access, identity, resilience, monitoring, cost management and operational supportability.
- Embed secure-by-design principles, ensuring security controls and shared-responsibility requirements are considered from design through to deployment.
- Support architecture governance forums, design authorities and technical assurance activities.
- Identify cloud risks, control gaps, duplicated capability and modernisation opportunities, then provide practical remediation pathways.
- Partner with Cyber Security, Technology Risk, Platform Operations, Data and external cloud vendors to deliver secure, reliable and sustainable outcomes.
- Strong Azure cloud architecture experience within a complex enterprise environment.
- Experience designing or governing Azure landing zones, cloud platforms, guardrails and reusable architecture patterns.
- Deep understanding of Azure networking: connectivity, routing, DNS, firewalls, private endpoints, ingress/egress controls and network segmentation.
- Strong knowledge of cloud identity and access management, including Entra ID, RBAC, privileged access, service identities and secrets management.
- Experience with DevSecOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code and policy-as-code-ideally Terraform, Bicep, Azure DevOps or GitHub.
- The ability to balance strategic architecture direction with delivery realities, risk reduction, cost management and operational requirements.
- Excellent stakeholder skills; you can communicate clearly with executives, technical teams and external partners.
Experience in a regulated environment such as financial services, insurance, healthcare or government will be highly regarded. Exposure to CPS 230/CPS 234, cloud security governance, FinOps, Databricks, Dynamics 365 or Power Platform would also be beneficial.
- A high-impact architecture role with real influence over cloud strategy and standards.
- A modernisation-focused environment spanning cloud, security, resilience and technology uplift.
- Hybrid working: 50% office / 50% work from home.
- Sydney-based role.
